On June 3rd, 2008 over 150 students, workers, faculty, activists and members of the community marched under one central demand: DROP ALL CHARGES NOW!
The March began at UofT and ended at Old City Hall where the first court date of the 14 arrested students and workers took place. The march was organized by the Committee for Just Education in coordination with AlwaysQuestion. The rally began with around 100, and had grown to about 200 (some news media say closer to 300) by the time it had reached the courthouse. Numerous passerbys entered the protest which took place at Queen and Bay (right next to Eaton Centre). There was also a significant showing from the Iranian community, which mobilized around 25 people. Very notable was Rosario Marchese, the NDP member of Provincial Parliament for Trinity-Spadina who came to demand the charges be dropped. The momentum is huge with each protest getting larger than the one before. It is clear that unity between Students and Workers produces a powerful social force.
