Give me a perfect RSS reader someone, please

Oleg Dulin: Here is what I want out of an RSS reader. 1) Do not try to replace my web browser (this is why I don’t like juice and FeedDemon)

Randy: Juice doesn't replace your Web browser. It doesn't overwrite any of your shell settings that replace your default browser. None! I haven't had time to write that beautiful option yet :)

File Sharing

Another cool feature in Juice is the file sharing. Did you know you can drag a file into the browser and send a URL to another user? Here's how.

Start by kick starting the Web server by typing http://localhost:8008/ in the search bar.

Then click Home and finally Shares.

Now drag files to this folder.

Type http://localhost:8008/YouFilename.ext in the search bar.

Now replace localhost w/ your actual IP address.

If you have a naked IP address (no firewall or NAT), then you can send that URL to a friend and they can view it.

It'll try to poke holes in firewalls w/ UPnP NAT, so you might be able to share thru a firewall, but I'm still working on the NAT traversal. Try using your external IP address. My goal in this feature is to reduce the above steps, to allow mundane users to shares pics.

I just uploaded a new version. The new features are...

Tabbed browsing,

Fixed bug w/ position of some javascript popup windows,

Searching of Blogosphere,

More default feeds, and

More throttling of RSS polling.

Reading w/ a Splash

iM often asked, what is truly unique about Juice. Well, I think the most unique feature is the Read button. I often surf the Blogosphere simply by clicking the Read button. I can sit there for hours just reading content off the Web w/out ever visiting a Web page.

That might sound a little confusing, so let me explain. The Juice browser allows you to subscribe to Web sites that have an auto-discoverable RSS feed (the next version will allow import of OPML and RSS subscription by visiting the RSS file too). This is when the magic starts. A background algorithm, then loads all the data behind these RSS files using standard syndication polling techniques and organizes it as a stream of RSS items. Clicking on the Read button presents you w/ one RSS item at a time, sorted partially by the pubDate, but also by your surfing behavior. Note, that the psychographic (for lack of a better word) algorithm presents both subscribed content and RSS items that it has decided you might also like. In fact, you don't even have to subscribe to content, as Juice will explore your surfing behavior and suggest content automatically.

I uploaded a new version of Juice. The new features are...

Blog items are served by a localhost Web server.

Search bar now can search, Google, any site, Google News, Google Images, Google Groups, Google Catalogs, Google Directory, Google Answers, Froogle, Feedster, Technorati, Dictionary and WhatIs.

Added a list of 12 popular RSS feeds to kick start the Reader.

Removed tons of bugs.

Added some more bugs ;)

Reading List

Juice has an amazing feature where it automagically reads content in the background and when you hit the Read button, the content is displayed to you using a wonderful algorithm that looks at your previous surfing behavior to determine what content you don't know you don't know. In order to give the user immediate response when clicking the Read button after the install, I have to kickstart the algorithm w/ a startup OPML file. Well, here's the OPML that'll go out in the next release (12 feeds included). If you want your feed included in the OPML, then send me a link to your Webpage and RSS feed. Just remember, Juice is experiencing a bit of growth, so don't ask for bandwidth you're not prepared to handle. Thanks!
