I've pondered organizing an event called 4camp. Unlike BarCamp, 4camp would be held at a real campground (w/ Wifi, of course) in the Toronto area. Unlike BarCamp, it's not about discussing and presenting existing ideas, but rather inventing new ideas. 4camp would be for entrepreneurs and startup junkies, who aren't currently consumed by an existing startup. 4camp is for developers and other geeks, who want to get together and start something new, on the Web or whatever, it doesn't really matter.
Basically, this would be a 1 day event, with campers arriving between noon and 3PM. There's also an option to camp overnight the night before. At 3PM, we would convene and discuss our group goals. Then break off into compatible teams (swapping and trading allowed). At 6PM, we re-convene for a group BAR-B-Q. After supper, the various groups present their new ideas to the rest of the group for discussion and input. At 9PM, close the laptops and end the day with a group campfire. You can either camp the night or jump in the car (no drinking and driving will be allowed) after 9PM (or anytime for that matter) and sleep in your own comfy bed at home (the event will be minutes from Toronto).
Cost? If you are camping overnight, then you flip your own bill. BYOB and BAR-B-Q fud. We'll sell t-shirts and other stuff to cover any extra costs. Otherwise, the event should be entirely free.
Who's in? And please send this to a couple geek friends or even better post it somewhere to get the word out.
